Made In America feat. Sikka Psy

from #TAKtuesdays by Those Acoustic Kats

/

about

This song was inspired by the chorus of "Made In America feat. Frank Ocean" by Jay-Z and Kanye West on the "Watch The Throne" album. We created the acoustic arrangement and wrote lyrics about the black experience in America and how over the years we have survived and thrived in this country, yet still have a long way to go. We hope this will be a song of reflection and pride for all Americans and people of the world who admire our American experience.

lyrics

{Chorus}
Sweet King Martin, Sweet Queen Coretta,
Sweet Brother Malcolm, Sweet Queen Betty,
Sweet Mother Mary, Sweet Father Joseph,
Sweet Jesus, we made it in America,
Sweet baby Jesus, sweet baby Jesus, we made it in America,
Sweet baby Jesus, sweet baby Jesus, we made it in America,

{Verse 1} [Erron Jay]
Mama told me no more slavery, look at your ankles and wrists, no more chains on me,
400 years, blood & sweat mixed with tears, stepping out on faith, just to face our fears,
Bloods & Crips on a slave ship, we were stacked on stacked on stacked, blacks on blacks on blacks,
Shed Blood turned them gallows to a Crypt, we landed on the moon, computers & cell phones,
Cure for AIDS & racism coming, it can't be long,
Can't know where you're going without knowing where you're coming from,
We need community, give us free,
Jesus was a black man that died for me,
R.I.P. to the King, and Brother Malcolm,
Footprints in the sand, let's change the outcome,
Spike Lee, do the right thing,
40 acres & a mule, (Acoustic Kats sing),

{Verse 2} [Sikka Psy]
I told my mama I'm a be a rapper, years later, took a plane just to be an actor,
I used to wanna hug the block & be a trapper, til my homie got killed, now fear's a factor,
Got the blood of a slave, heart of a king,
You put your mind to it now, you'll do anything,
You put your prayers to it daily, you'll move anything,
Mountains, planets, just to reach your dream,
I do a song everyday & call it my thesis,
Left my momma on the porch singing, (Sweet baby Jesus),
Land of the free, home of the brave,
They say your life's an open book, just turn the page,
And if you find a chapter out that you don't like,
Man, rip it right out, tell it goodnight,
No turbulence in the sky, that's a good flight,
And pray to Jesus everyday just to get right,

{Verse 3} [eRich]
They used to tell us go home, been hated in America for far too long,
When we were singing her songs, the pigs held the barrels right up under our throats,
But now we free baby, at least we free in body now,
All is fair in war, but Love can free everybody now,

{Bridge} [Sikka Psy]
When Barack got in, swear I partied like a rock star,
Years later, cops wanna put me in the squad car,
My homie chased jobs, not he got tired feet,
So he took the LeBron way & he rolled with the Heat,
America, I know you hear me, yes, I love you dearly,
But these taxes out my check really hurt me silly,
Oprah got Harpo money, mine is close to Celie,
So I grind all day just to pay my billies.
